Kuro raku chawan, Inspired by Nonko's Inazuma (Lightning) chawan
Nonko (also known as Donyu) was Raku Kichizaemon III (1599-1656), famed for his series of seven chawan (Shichishu).
This kuroraku chawan is inspired by one of these, a chawan entitled "Lightning" due to the vermillion splashes on the very dark, black background.
The vermillion glaze made the chawan stand out amongst its peers as it was a technique used by Nonko towards the end of his career.
There is a tiny white grain embedded in the glaze on the inside of the bowl, left over from the firing process.
Comes with a signed wooden box.
